The Sydney Opera House is located in Sydney Harbor in Sydney, Australia. This is a multi-venue performing arts center that is one of the most iconic buildings in Australia. The building was completed in 1973 and serves as symbol for the city of Sydney. For many people this is the first thing that they think of when they think of Sydney, Australia.
The first time I ever saw this building was during the 2000 Summer Olympics. I was only 8 years old at the time but as a young child I was amazed at how different this building looked compared to all the others. Being an 8 year old kid with limited traveling experience and whose knowledge of buildings was very limited, this building represented something entirely new and different.
I would love to be able to visit the Sydney Opera House one day and be able to go inside. I think it would be very interesting to be able to analyze the different architectural features of this building from the inside and the outside. I think this building serves as a symbol of how architecture can step outside the norms of traditional architecture and that sometimes it is okay to "color outside the lines".
