Week 3 - Denver Art Museum

The Denver Art Museum is located in the Civic Center of Denver, Colorado and is one of the largest art museums between the west coast and Chicago.  I am originally from Littleton, Colorado a suburb about 20 miles south of the downtown Denver.  As I kid, I took many field trips throughout grade school to the art museum and was amazed at the structure and the shape it takes.

Since the new Frederic C. Hamilton building was completed in 2006, I have not been back to the art museum but hope to go back soon.  The Hamilton building is one of the most interesting looking buildings in my opinion and I often wonder how exactly this building is supported with the all the odd angles and different slopes that can be found on the exterior.  It would be fitting that the Hamilton building houses the museum's modern and contemporary art collection.  Personally, I think the building looks like a Jawa Sandcrawler from Star Wars.  The extending wing of the building looks very similar to the front of the Sandcrawler just not as profound.

I definitely appreciate this contemporary and modern piece of architecture because I think that it fits in with the neighborhood as this area of Denver has it is becoming more contemporary and modern as well.
