Week 2 - 30 St. Mary Axe

30 St. Mary Axe is a skyscraper in downtown London, England.  The building is widely known as "The Gherkin" and is located the primary financial district in London.  The building stands 591 feet tall and is one of the most iconic buildings in London.  The principal occupiers are Swiss Re and Kirkland and Ellis

I find this building to be very interesting because of its shape.  I personally think that this building looks like a bullet with the architectural designs on the outside contributing to this perception.  The spiraling features down the side of the building make it look as if it is a bullet being shot out of the barrel of the gun with the rotating motion.

I visited London a few years back and have the opportunity to spend some time in the area nearby this building and it was interesting to compare this newly constructed contemporary building with some of the other architecture in London that has been there for hundreds of years.  While I am personally not a huge fan of contemporary architecture, I think that this building is very unique and is a building I would want to explore more in depth if I had the chance.
